Where to sell your iPhone in Ottawa: every option, compared
Apple Trade In, Marketplace or a local buyback service? What you get paid, how much work it takes, and how to stay safe.
Every fall, a new iPhone comes out and an older one ends up in a drawer. That phone is still worth real money, but only for a while. In Ottawa–Gatineau you have three realistic ways to turn it into cash, and they differ a lot in what you get paid, how much work it takes and how much risk you carry.
Here’s every option, compared side by side, plus what actually moves your price.
Want cash with the least hassle? Get a firm online offer from a local buyback service and get paid by e-Transfer or cash. Apple Trade In is just as easy, but it pays in Apple credit, not money. Marketplace can pay the most, if you have the time and patience.
- In Canada, Apple Trade In pays in Apple credit or an Apple Gift Card, not cash.
- Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji usually pay the most, but you handle the listing, the meetup and the payment risk.
- A local buyback service gives you a firm price up front and pays by Interac e-Transfer or cash.
- Wherever you sell, five things set the price: model, storage, condition, battery health and whether the phone is signed out of iCloud.
At a glance
| You get | Effort | Risk | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Trade In | Apple credit or gift card | Low | Low |
| Marketplace, Kijiji | Cash, once it sells | High | High |
| Local buyback | e-Transfer or cash | Low | Low |
Apple Trade In
The simplest route if you’re already buying a new iPhone from Apple. You answer a few questions, send or drop off your phone, and the value comes off your next purchase.
- How you’re paid: credit toward a new Apple device, or an Apple Gift Card.
- The catch: the money stays with Apple. You can’t spend it on rent or groceries.
- Best for: upgrading to a new iPhone from Apple, today.
Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji
A private sale can get you the highest price, but you become the store. You write the listing, answer the messages, negotiate and meet a stranger.
- How you’re paid: cash or e-Transfer from the buyer, once it sells.
- The catch: lowball offers, no-shows and the occasional scam, like a fake payment screenshot.
- Best for: people with time, who are comfortable meeting buyers.
If you go this way, meet in a busy public place and wait until the e-Transfer has actually landed in your account before you hand the phone over.
A local buyback service
A buyback service gives you a firm price up front, based on the model and condition you describe. No listing, no messages, no strangers.
- How you’re paid: Interac e-Transfer or cash.
- The catch: you may get a little less than a perfect private sale.
- Best for: getting paid quickly and safely, without the back-and-forth.

What decides your price
Wherever you sell, the same five things set the number.
- Model and age. The biggest factor. Pro and Pro Max models hold their value better than the standard ones.
- Storage. More storage, higher price, especially on Pro models.
- Condition. A crack on the front or back glass matters far more than light scratches on the frame.
- Battery health. Check it in Settings › Battery › Battery Health. Below 85%, the price drops a little. Below 80%, the battery needs replacing.
- Everything works. Face ID, cameras, speakers and charging. A fault lowers the price, but doesn’t make the phone worthless.
How selling to Deviceli works
- Get your price. Pick your model on our sell page and answer a few questions. You get a firm offer in about a minute, held for 14 days.
- Hand it over. Free pickup in Ottawa–Gatineau, a meetup in a public place, or a free prepaid, tracked label from anywhere in Canada.
- Get paid. We check the phone matches your answers, then pay you by e-Transfer or cash the same day it passes inspection. No fees.
If something doesn’t match, you get a revised offer with the reason. Say no, and we send the phone back for free.
Where we pick up
Free pickup covers all of Ottawa and Gatineau and the surrounding area, including Kanata, Orléans, Barrhaven, Nepean, Stittsville, Gloucester, Hull and Aylmer. Not sure if you’re in range? Call or text (613) 663-7072.
Selling from outside Ottawa?
You can still sell to Deviceli from anywhere in Canada. We send you a free prepaid, tracked shipping label, inspect the phone when it arrives, and pay you by Interac e-Transfer the same day it passes inspection.
Before you hand it over
- Back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer.
- Unpair your Apple Watch, if you have one.
- Sign out of iCloud: Settings › your name › Sign Out.
- Erase it: Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Erase All Content and Settings.
- Take out your SIM card.
The bottom line
If you’re buying your next iPhone from Apple, Trade In is hard to beat for convenience. If you want the absolute top dollar and don’t mind the work, list it on Marketplace. And if you simply want money in your account this week, with no strangers and no haggling, a firm offer from a local buyback service is the easy middle ground.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell an iPhone with a cracked screen?
Yes. Cracked screens, weak batteries and even phones that won’t turn on still get a price. It’s just lower than for a phone in good shape.
How do I get paid?
By Interac e-Transfer, or in cash in person in Ottawa–Gatineau, the day your phone passes inspection.
Is my personal data safe?
Once your phone is signed out of iCloud and erased, your photos, messages and accounts are gone from the device.
What if my iPhone is still locked to my Apple ID?
Sign out of iCloud first. A phone still locked to an account can’t be bought, by us or anyone else.
Is it safe to sell an iPhone on Facebook Marketplace?
It can be, if you meet in a busy public place and wait until the e-Transfer has actually landed in your bank account. Never accept a screenshot as proof of payment.
How fast do I get paid by Deviceli?
The same day your phone passes inspection. With a pickup or meetup in Ottawa–Gatineau, that’s usually the day you hand it over.
Do you pick up in Kanata, Orléans or Gatineau?
Yes. Pickup is free everywhere in Ottawa, Gatineau and the surrounding area.
Can I sell my iPhone if I live outside Ottawa?
Yes. We send a free prepaid, tracked label anywhere in Canada and pay by Interac e-Transfer once the phone passes inspection.
